Every so often an item of clothing will catch my eye and I fall instantly, madly, deeply in love. It doesn’t happen often mind you. A friend once told me her mother advised her if you see something you really, really, REALLY love you should always get it, because it is actually quite a rare occurrence. I’ve kept this advice in mind over the years as it is a rare occurrence for me. So when I saw this dress in Zimmermann I knew I had to have it. I reasoned with myself that in terms of cost per wear it would definitely pay itself off in no time, as it is a classic style that will never date. And the fabric….just so divine. I could spend hours poring over fabric (there’s a few upholstery shops in Sydney that will testify to this). This fabric is so exquisite, being broderie anglaise (my all time summer favourite) combined with the beautiful floral print. The wrap style particularly I find so flattering. The neckline is not cut too low, it accentuates your waist and hips without being too revealing, which all adds up to feeling comfortable while still being flattering.
It makes sense to invest in a good, timeless dress as you will find so many occasions for it. For me, particularly at this point in my life being a mama, I find myself attending more daytime events than evening these days so a good daytime dress is a solid investment. I’ve already worn it to two lunches plus Christmas day and I know it will have many more wears. I actually have it hanging on the wall in our bedroom at the moment as it’s so pretty I feel like I don’t want to hide it away in a closet! I’ve styled it here barefoot on the beach (!) but actually worn it out with a gorgeous pair of delicate nude heels from Zomp (pictured) and on another occasion my trusty espadrille wedges.
Until next time
